Keep Low Power Mode Enabled Permanently on iPhone and iPad

  • Prevent Low Power Mode from automatically turning off on iPhone and iPad
  • Learn how to take full advantage of features that are disabled with Low Power Mode
  • Create an automation in the Shortcuts app to keep Low Power Mode enabled
  • Extend the battery life of your device and charge less frequently

Apple introduced Low Power Mode in 2015 as a way to conserve battery life and extend the iPhone’s battery life between charges. However, one issue that iPhone owners have been critical of is that Low Power Mode turns off automatically once the iPhone is charged to 80%. But with the help of a quick trick, you can prevent the iPhone from ever turning off Low Power Mode again.

When you enable Low Power Mode, some useful features are disabled, such as auto-lock, display brightness, iCloud photos, automatic downloads, email fetch, and background app refresh. It’s not necessary to keep your iPhone on Low Power Mode continuously, as newer models have a stellar battery life, but it can be useful for older models or if you want to extend the battery life of your device and recharge less frequently.

To prevent Low Power Mode from turning off, you can use the Automation feature of the Shortcuts app. Here’s how to create the automation: open the Shortcuts app, tap the Automation menu, tap the + sign in the top right corner, tap the Create Personal Automation button, scroll for the Low Power Mode option, choose the Is Turned Off option, tap Next, search for the Set Low Power Mode script, and have the Turn and On options selected. Once that’s done, the automation will prevent your iPhone from turning off Low Power Mode. You can disable the automation when you need to take full advantage of the iPhone features that iOS turns off once Low Power Mode is enabled.
