Meta recently launched Threads, its new microblogging social network, to compete with Twitter. However, due to local regulations, Threads is not available in European Union countries. Users can download Threads via the App Store on iOS and Google Play Store on Android, but it’s not available in the EU due to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). It was possible to use Threads in Europe by changing the App Store or Google Play Store region, but it seems that this method no longer works.

The best solution right now for people living in Europe or just traveling there and wanting to use Threads is to set up a VPN on their phone. This will allow them to change the location of their IP address to a country where Threads is officially available. However, they will still need to download the app using an App Store or Google Play Store account from a supported region.

Meta hasn’t said when (or if) Threads will be available in Europe. Since Threads is entirely based on Instagram, this could result in problems for Meta. Until Meta adds a solution to separate Threads from Instagram, the situation is unlikely to change.
