- Apple is looking to expand how they show new devices in AR.
- Apple Vision Pro could be used for a full training guide.
- The AR model could present much more tailored information to the user.
Apple is looking to use its Apple Vision Pro as a tool to help prospective buyers with an annotated AR guide or getting virtual help for other Apple devices. In a newly-revealed patent application called “Systems And Methods Of Guided Instructions Or Support Using A Virtual Object,” Apple proposes what could become a full training guide. The AR model could present much more tailored information to the user.
The patent application states that annotations can be presented on the product either overlaid on the physical product or in proximity to the physical object and/or on a virtual representation of the physical product. This could be helpful when the device is being presented in AR as it could show intelligent, adapting annotations. This type of feature could be useful in an Apple Store, and the customer support person could specify that certain annotations are shown to the user.
The patent application is credited to two inventors, including Omar R. Khan, who previously worked on an Apple patent for AR mapping tools. William Gallagher, an Apple Historian & Senior Editor, has 30 years of experience between the BBC and AppleInsider discussing Apple technology.
