Apple’s Car Key feature is a useful way to unlock and start your car with just your iPhone. It uses the iPhone’s Near Field Communication (NFC) and U1 chip to allow more precise spatial awareness and extra security. The car key is cryptographically stored in the iPhone’s Secure Element and is viewable in iCloud. You can also share the key through AirDrop or messaging apps like Messages, Mail, and WhatsApp.
Car Key is currently available on cars from five manufacturers. This includes BMW’s 2021-2023 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 8 Series, X5, X6, X7, X5 M, X6 M, Z4, i4, iX, iX1, iX3, i3, and i7 models. BYD has the 2022-2023 HAN models, Genesis has the 2023 GV60 and G90 models, Hyundai has the 2023 Palisade and IONIQ 6 models, and Kia has the 2023 Telluride, Niro, and 2024 Seltos models.
