- Apple released iOS 17.0.3 as a fix for iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max overheating issues.
- Benchmark tests for iPhone 15 Pros running the iOS 17.0.3 update show no performance reduction.
- Thermal testing performed before and after update shows that the overheating issue is resolved.
The latest iOS 17.0.3 update released by Apple this week contains fixes for the overheating problems reported by some iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max users since the handsets were released. Benchmark tests for iPhone 15 Pros running the iOS 17.0.3 update show that the software patch does not reduce the performance of the powerful A17 Pro. Thermal testing performed before and after the update has also proven that the iPhone 15 Pros are now no longer getting hot after the fix is applied.
It was reported that various scenarios such as high-end gaming and charging the battery could lead to overheating. The blog _ZDNet_ used a thermal camera to measure the temperature and it recorded a 107.1ºF temperature when the handset charged with a 35W charging brick. After applying the iOS 17.0.3 update, the same tests were performed with the same parameters and equipment and the iPhones did not exceed 93.8ºF while charging with the same 35W charger. Compared to other iPhone and Android phones, the iPhone 15 Pro is no longer the hottest with a temperature of 98.7ºF. This test involving a thermal camera suggests that the iOS 17.0.3 patch has effectively fixed the overheating issues.
